Introduction

Reminding Hue, we think of a poetic ancient capital city which is one of places which have many cultural heritages recognized by UNESCO and attractions that welcomed thousands of tourists every year. If you want to enjoy attractions and heritages here, please apply Vietnam visa and come to Hue city.

Being a city in Thua Thien Hue province, the central part of Vietnam. Hue is about 660 km from Ha Noi and 1080 km from Saigon so it has always been considered the fulcrum of Vietnam’s two rice baskets, the Red river delta and the Mekong delta. The name “Hue” came from the local mispronunciation of the word Hoa in Thuan Hoa and since the 16th century, thanks to its strategic location, Thuan Hoa has been a very prosperous area. The Nguyen Lord chose this area to be their headquarters. After Nguyen Anh defeated the Tay Son, he made Hue Vietnam’s capital city in 1802 and throned with the name “Gia Long”. Since then, Hue was built and fortified and successive king of the Nguyen Dynasty has added to the foundation set by his predecessors.

Cultural Heritage

Hue is the only one that still has the intact appearance of a complex of the monarchic capital consisting of walls, palaces, and royal tombs. Consequently, Hue is among Vietnam’s most valued national treasure in terms of history and heritage. Hue is famous because of relics consisting of palaces on the northern bank of Perfume River. Situated in the middle of hills on the southern bank of Perfume River are very beautiful tombs of Kings Nguyen. Among these tombs are the four famous ones with the name and the arrangements of the tomb reflected each Emperor’s points of view, personality and tastes. This is majestic Gia Long Tomb, imposing Minh Mang Tomb, poetic Tu Duc Tomb and magnificent Khai Dinh Tomb.

Hue is considered as a basic center of Buddhism. Tourists can find in Hue and its surrounding still tens of pagodas constructed more 300 years ago, and a hundred of temples and pagodas built in the early century. The royal music, traditional famous dishes and sophisticated handicraft are also Hue’s specialities.

Hue has become a big and invaluable museum because it is the unique city of Vietnam still remaining its form of City under Middle Age and the constructions of monarchic. Therefore, on December 1993 vestiges in Hue ancient capital has been classified by the government as a very precious property and recognized as a World Cultural Heritage Site by UNESCO.

Attractions

Situating nearly 50 km from the north of Hue is Bach Ma National Park. There was a city located in the mountains in the 1930s, but after the 1946 – 1954 revolution it was almost completely destroyed after the 1946 – 1954 revolution. Now, some remnants of that old city are left with roman architecture and buried under vegetation. With suitable temperature never below 4°C in the winter, and above 26°C and a lot terms of sites to visit as landscapes to admire, Bach Ma National Park is now considered as another Dalat, but in the centre of the country.
Far from Hue 15 km, taking only 15 minutes by car, tourists can reach a beach named Thuan An beach. It is located near by Thuan An mouth, where Huong river runs to Tam Giang lagoon and then to the sea…. In the beginning of the 19th century, King Minh Mang named the place as Thuan An, assigned to build Tran Hai frontier post for defense of the Capital. Thuan An is a very enjoyable place for all tourists after a full day to visit Citadel, mausoleums, pagodas and Hue scenery… Thuan An is also the place where Hue people gather to enjoy the fresh air and sea-bathing in summer time. Besides Thuan An Beach, Hue also has another nice one Lang Co Beach which is famous for white sand and clean and shallow water. The in-season is from April to the end of July, with an average temperature of 25oC and 158 sunny hours per month.
The Phu Cam Cathedral is located in Phuoc Vinh Ward, Hue City. It was built in 1965 following modern architectural designs. The interior was built following classical traditions: two rows of stained-glass windows are located in the upper gallery and a holy cross made of steel and concrete is in the middle alley. At the front of the cathedral are two statues: Saint Phero on the right, and Saint Paulo on the left.

Vi Da is the name of a very famous territory of Hue which was mentioned in Han Mac Tu poems. Lying along the Huong river, Vi Da is a hamlet established 200 years ago. It was built after the classical architecture of 3 principal rooms and 2 auxiliary ones at the 2 ends, the roof is covered with “yin & yang” tiles (tiles imbricated the ones within the other), with its top having 2 dragons, in front of the house there is a courtyard paved with bricks, and a brick screen is accompanied by a rock-work (a miniature – mountain). Beside that, Vi Da is also famous for its gardening traditions, its gardens have been blossoming all year long in the 4 seasons.
