2. QUOTATIONS TO HEAL BY: ALIGN YOUR ACTIONS WITH YOUR INTENT

You cannot long hold the internal attitude of a well person if
you continue to perform the acts of a sick person.

-- Wallace D. Wattles

You must do what you can do now, where you are now; do every
separate act in the most perfect manner possible, and put the
power of faith into every action.

-- Wallace D. Wattles

Integrity is not a conditional word. It doesn't blow in the wind
or change with the weather. It is your inner image of yourself,
and if you look in there and see a man who won't cheat, then you
know he never will.

--John D. MacDonald

4. FEATURE ARTICLE: HOW DID HE DO IT?

"I lost 100 pounds in a year and kept it off for 35 years."

WOW!

I mean ... WOW!

Even if you haven't tried to lose weight yourself, you probably
know someone who struggles constantly with gaining, losing, and
gaining again.

Thirty-five years ago they weren't doing stomach reduction
surgery or much of the radical stuff that people use today for
drastic weight loss.

Who is this guy and what was his secret?

Dr. Gay Hendricks, known for his many excellent books and
seminars on healthy relationships, told this story. He was 24
years old, fat, miserable, in a failing relationship, and
hitting bottom.

He decided he needed to change his life drastically.

The next day, he slipped on a hidden patch of ice, was knocked
unconscious, and had a moment of illumination -- a feeling of
connection with God and the whole universe.

He says that as he regained consciousness, just before being
fully aware of what had happened, he had the thought that from
then on he wanted to have more of that illumination experience
without having to be knocked out to get it.

Thus began a long path of spiritual exploration which included
learning yoga and meditation with Ram Dass and many other
teachers over the years.

But right there at the beginning, he made a decision that he
would no longer be the man with that sick, fat body.

He decided not to behave like that man any more. Mr. Wattles
would have been cheering!

He wanted to act like the man he had decided to become.

In doing so, he became that man.

Instead of eating unconsciously, he wanted to be fully present.

Instead of getting into the struggle of "wants" versus "shoulds"
with nutrition, calories, or diet foods, he focused on feeling
the way he wanted to feel, and eating only things that he
associated with feeling that way.

He decided to eat only things that would feed his spirit.

One week, he reported, blueberries were in season, and they made
him so happy that was all he ate for a week.

I've used a similar technique with patients struggling with the
"What should I eat?" question. Instead of adding to their guilt
and resistance by giving a long list of forbidden and
recommended foods, I've guided them into a state of relaxation
and memory of feeling peaceful and happy, and then had them tell
me what foods they associated with this feeling.

They unanimously report getting wonderful results when they
follow their own guidance.

What would YOU eat if you were eating to feed your spirit
instead of your body?

How would your life be if your actions all lined up with your
intentions?

But there's something more happening here.
Something that is critical to losing weight,
healing, and getting ANYTHING you want.

You know how difficult it is to think of a name or a word that's
"on the tip of your tongue" when you are trying really hard to
remember it?

There's an explanation for that.

Your brain does one of two things. Either it comes up with
something close, but not quite right, and "gets stuck" on it so
that you can't access the thing you're trying to remember, or it
gets stuck on your thoughts about what it means that you can't
find the word.

It's not until you are distracted with something else, and not
thinking about it at all, that suddenly you remember the answer.
It's a brain thing -- you have to release the wrong idea and the
negative clutter before the right idea can come.

When you are trying really hard to do something like lose weight
or heal something in your body, your brain gets stuck on all the
previous ideas you've had about the subject. It can't get past
all the painful, negative associations with that subject, can't
drop the image of what you don't want as long as you are
focusing on the subject of your body.

To get what you want, you have to stop trying so hard. Distract
yourself with something else that's easier to feel good about.
Focus on a different goal.

You have to give your brain a chance to release what it's fixed
on to make space for the new ideas.

This is exactly what Dr. Hendricks did in focusing on who he
wanted to be instead of on the body he didn't like. He was
having a good time learning and enjoying new things like yoga
and meditation.

It's a funny thing that trying really hard to make something
happen can be the very obstacle that keeps you from getting it.
But isn't it a big relief?

Last week I read a book by a man who cured himself of Lyme
disease (often thought to be incurable) by surfing. It's a
wonderful exploration of how we get "into the flow."

But that's just it. Whatever you can do to shift your focus away
from the whole topic of what isn't working for you and distract
yourself with something that feels good is exactly what to do to
begin to allow the things you want to begin to show up in your
life.

This is why in this ezine I spend so much time talking about
emotions and thoughts instead of things like nutrition and
exercise. The real key to healing is in the mind.

So, my friend, if you were to do what you love instead of what
you think you *should* do, what would you do? If you were to act
like the person you wish to be, how would that be different from
how you usually act?

If you'd like to learn more about the wonderful work of Gay
Hendricks and his equally wonderful wife, Kathlyn, you can start
with a little gift from them by following this link:

5. WILLIAM'S REVIEW

William Wittmann is the master of bodywork I go to when I'm in
physical pain. He's also a friend I call when I forget
everything I teach.

Because he has been in the healing profession for something like
30 years, I value his opinion.

INFINITE COACH(tm)

This sweet gem, The Infinite Coach(tm) Audio Set, will
soothe your heart and free you to fly. Dr. Alexandra Gayek
put this audio series of CDs or tapes together so you
could easily absorb and apply the wonderful teachings of
Wallace Wattles' "Science of Being Well." The first disk
alone is worth the price of admission. I repeatedly listen
to this one. I enjoy it with breakfast.

It provides the general overview but who cares ... I get
Alexandra and her delightful confidence reminding me of
truths I already know, that you already know in your bones
and in your heart. If you're like me, you benefit from a
regular stream of this valuable support.

Each of the remaining seven discs homes in on a particular
aspect of health.

Here are the titles to the CDs:

1. Building your Conception of Perfect Health
-- My favorite.

2. Transforming your Mind and Body through
Forgiveness -- This forgiveness has muscle.

3. Healing Now through Gratitude -- Don't miss
this one. Really.

4. Healing Quickly from Infectious Disease --
She reveals some cool insights here. And you
know you will get a cold at least once more.
I liked the ideas so much I wanted to get a
cold just to appreciate the perspective
Alexandra brings to the infectious disease
process.

5. Healing for Surgery, Injury, or Chronic
Disease

6. Transforming Fear and Anxiety -- This one is
a hoot, too.

7. Interrupting Addictive Behavior

8. Preparing for Rejuvenating Sleep

Alexandra says, "The CD on addictions doesn't make much
sense unless your addiction is flaring up at the time you
listen to it." How cool is that? I liked what I heard
even though when I listened to it my addictions were not
active.

Interrupting Addictive Behavior has a set of wonderful
questions to engage options. These fascinated me.

Referring to the circumstances you are in that make
indulging in your addiction seem appealing, she asks,

"What would my worst enemy do?" Cool, huh.
"What would Spiderman do?"
"What would Mother Theresa do?"

The disc dealing with infectious disease radically
reframes disease from battlefield metaphors to one of a
friendly servant. This conversation gives you a good
handle for a way to look at health in general.

One force in the universe influences and creates
everything. And it likes you. As I say to clients
periodically, there is a god and she likes you and is
capable of helping.

My research staff of insomniacs (a family member) tested
disc 8 -- Preparing for Rejuvenating Sleep. She reports
it helped her to get to sleep the first few times but
after that, she was familiar enough with it to return to
the loops of mental chatter you may be familiar with.

That's OK. I was curious. The disC aims at rejuvenation,
not curing sleep disorders. It sets you up to get the most
out of the restoration that sleep provides which some
squander or don't fully harvest. You will be able to take
full advantage of the miraculous benefits of sleep.

I recommend you get the Infinite Coach(tm) series.

Alexandra is a long time friend and colleague. Just
listening to her voice with the lovely nature sounds in
the background makes me happy and peaceful.

If you're like me, you will find these CDs healing in the
deeper sense of the word. You will recognize and align
with your inherent wholeness.

Go for it.

7. THE LAST WORD: IN CASE YOU MISSED IT

In the August 31, 2006 edition of BE WELL!(tm) the feature
article recommended a video clip that it seems was temporarily
unavailable as soon as the ezine was published.

It's back, and worth the four minutes to watch.

--> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=79hUngrVwGM

Just to remind you of the context, here's the article again:

FEATURE ARTICLE: WOULD YOU BE WILLING?

What do you think you have to do today?

Do the things on your list sound like fun? Are they clearly
moving you in the direction of what you really want in your
life?

Are there duties on your list that seem necessary but not any
fun at all? Things that seem necessary but aren't fun and don't
even head you in a positive direction?

Does the sheer volume of what there is to do crowd all the fun
out of everything?

I woke up this morning with the same headache I had yesterday.
It was no secret where it came from. I had WAY too much on my
plate and had myself all stressed out about handling it.

Then I remembered what I had written for you, and it dawned on
me that it applied to ME, right now. It wasn't just about those
big dreams we have that are out there on the horizon. It's about
daily life.

I laughed when I realized it was my own thoughts that were
stressing me out. Good grief! How quickly I forget everything I
teach!

Do you want to feel some relief from your own stress? Want to
feel more confident about reaching your goals and getting what
you want?

Does it feel like you can't ever make progress?

You CAN. But how?

The definition of overwhelm: Thinking you are responsible for
things that you believe you lack the time, knowledge, ability,
and/or resources to handle, and that you must handle them
according to a standard you believe you can't meet.

Would you be willing to allow yourself to be as loved and
supported as someone who has been unable to walk, talk, or move
much except his head since birth?

What if, as for the young man you'll meet in a moment, the
*action* required to do great things was small compared to the
ability to attract helpful resources and people?

What if all that was required to get the important things done
was faith in the outcome, loving yourself enough to believe that
what you want is worthwhile, willingness to do your small part,
and acceptance that the universe handles the large part?

Something to think about.

Watch this:

--> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=79hUngrVwGM

You are this loved.

The whole universe is like the man ready to ride the bike with
you on the front, if you would just allow yourself to accept
that what you CAN do is enough, and expect and enjoy the ride.

The universe is like the man swimming, pulling the raft. Would
you please just get in -- or allow yourself to be lifted in --
by turning your focus toward possibility?

The universe is like the man running, pushing the wheelchair.
Would you hang on and joyfully go with the flow, instead of
jumping out with your worry and self-judgement about why you're
not there yet?

Here is this young man, with very limited physical ability to
"do" anything, yet look where he went! Can you see the part his
desire, happiness, and gratitude played?

Can you see why his loving father would WANT to be on his team?

Next time you're proud of yourself for accomplishing something,
be proud! You did your part!

And a big part of what you did is to be willing to allow the
energy of the universe to work through you.

You breathed.
You imagined.
You gave yourself permission to try.
You let yourself think you could.
You gave yourself a reason.
You challenged your stressful, scary, and self-defeating
thoughts.
You believed you were worthy of your goal.
You believed your goal was worthy of you.
You believed that somehow what you needed would show up.

Next time you think you can't, check your willingness to do
these things.

You CAN.

*****

Tune in again next month for another delicious edition of what I
trust is food for your spirit.

Until then,

Trusting that you will go on until the priceless blessing of
perfect health is yours, I wish you infinite blessings along
the way.

EXPECT GOOD THINGS!

Warmly,

Alexandra
